BAT VK-60

If batman had a hifi system in Wayne Manor for listening to doom metal, this would be the amp. I don’t know of a more evil looking amplifier.

Theres a lot to like about this design. Op-amp driven constant bias, fused cathodes, balanced circuit all the way through, massive 60w triodes, mammoth transformers. Theres a lot not to like about it too; its horribly inefficient, has 12 tubes and sockets to worry about, and those 6c33c tubes havent been in production for decades. I figure its just a case of the cool/practical ratio. Like a 1980 straight-six Honda CBX; unmatched ‘cool’ status, maybe not the best daily driver.

I’m not sure what year this one was built; though lots of components have ‘96’ stamped on them.

This example i have wouldn’t stay in bias according to the green indicator leds as i bought it. The hipster paper-oil couping caps were toast. There shall be no hipster caps in my household.

(above) i’ve been sure to take plenty of good photos of this area for when something inevitably gets roasted.
